Warning: Long post! Today almost broke me.
My AirBnB host laid out an incredible breakfast and at first I didn't think I could eat it all.
Just kidding, I didn't even attempt to eat it all, though perhaps I should have in preparation for a hard day's ride.
After stopping in town to pick up picnic supplies, I was off. The route started in a river valley surrounded by cliffs - and on the road I was surrounded by trucks. The traffic wasn't too heavy so it was bearable, especially when I passed an incredible field of poppies.
I got off the busy road and onto a road that was hair-raising for a completely different reason.
On the left is a retaining wall for the landslide that just recently swept down the mountain. On the right is a chasm and a 2' high wall. My center of gravity on my bike is about 4'.... You do the math!
After that I wasn't afraid of anything, including clowns (it's traveling circus season in this part of France). But why is a French clown wearing an Uncle Sam hat???
Made it to Annecy just in time to take a stroll around town before dinner. This is one of the most beautiful towns I've ever been to. A quaint medieval area, an Alpine lake, big grassy parks, and what seems like 10,000 restaurants with outdoor seating.
And yes, I had dinner.
