More bike path, more headwinds and more uphill but surprisingly enjoyable and shorter today.
We ate lunch with St. Sebastian.
And suddenly we were in GermTalia, with German signs
German architecture, and "Hallo!" instead of "Ciao!" The cyclists now are laden down with a hundred pounds of gear instead of no gear, matching spandex and no helmet! I've also seen more women cyclists in the last two days than I saw in the entire rest of Italy.
We saw this sign on part of the bike path. It seemed improbable, but then suddenly we saw all of these things AND a train.
It was a hot day, so when we arrived in Bolzano we did the logical thing. Lemon and coconut for E, lime and passionfruit yogurt for me. Did not come close to breaking the top 3.
And then to the Hotel Citta, more fancy than we are used to! Soon Nancy and Claude showed up and we were not alone for the first time in two months! Hooray!!!
We headed to the brewery Batzenhausl for a beer before dinner, but had so much fun that we stayed for dinner (not pictured.)
On our rest day, we did the shopping to prep for the hiking trip, and a very little touristing. It was 96 degrees today, so we really took it easy.
Mostly we looked at frescos in churches and elsewhere. same thing as before, but different style. Different clothing, including this guy's AlpenStomper hat.
Dejected magician
Bill Clinton?
Eric and Claude went up in a tram to see the view.
There's the mountain that we are going to circumnavigate over the next five days...
The rest of our group straggled in throughout the afternoon, and we all ate dinner together in the evening at Zur Kaiserkorn, also not pictured.
We will be offline for five days as we hike around. We will catch you all up when we get back. Happy July!
