Back on our bikes and back on the trail along the Adige river today.
We backtracked to Trento (this time slightly downhill with a tail wind!), passing some familiar sights along the way...
After Trento it was new territory. Who's that peeking over the foliage?
Saw a terrific castle, which Eric called for his "I'll take that!" castle of the day.
We followed bike paths for the entire ride. Great cycling infrastructure! It must be a bike trip again, because we got rained on and drenched. At least it's warm enough to feel kind of good at this point!
The Adige was about two feet higher than on the way up.
The path crossed some interesting bridges.
After an unexpected climb, we saw Lake Garda (the North end this time) in the distance.
We made it to Riva del Garda and the B & B Butterfly. Cleaned up and headed out to town. Riva is a really nice town. It is touristy, but more mellow than the other Italian lake resort towns we have visited on this trip. It also has a "real city" outside of the historic center.
Lakefront and 12th cen. clock tower.
Nice pedestrian streets.
Town walls and gates.
A ho hum castle
And a hydroelectric plant! (Sadly no tours available on this night...)
We also saw a couple of whimsical things, like this boat.
And these barstools.
Our last (?) pizzas at Ristorante Pizzaria Sud. Old faves - Diavola for E and mushroom and onion for A.
And gelato from Cristallo (not necessarily in that order!) Gelato was fine, but didn't break the top three. Coffee and chocolate for A, lemon and Bounty for E.
Then we watched Belgium eliminate perennial favorite Brazil from the World Cup, and headed home to sleep.
Only two more days of riding...
