For our day off we take a day trip down the coast to Eze. Bus #100 – the best deal in the Riviera – for E1 it takes you down the coast road from Menton, through Monte Carlo and other swank villages and all the way to Nice.
We get off at Eze train station and hike the Nietzsche Path up the side of the hills to the … You guessed it … medieval town of Eze. Then back to Menton on the trusty #100.
Fresh as daisies and ready to set off on our excursion
Where we’re headed – Eze
Views back down from where we’ve come.
Given the size of those yachts, we guess that Monaco is around that corner…
Eze - a small town with small houses and tiny doors.
Lots of grouchy travelers say Eze is “ruined” by tourism, and yes, it is entirely stores and hotels catering to visitors, but it is also very lovely. Some photos follow…
Eric stops for a sandwich – apparently this is what the French think of our cuisine…
Back out for a wander around Menton - it looks much more Riviera-ish in the sun.
We break for a beverage in one of the beach bars, and catch France’s first gay marriage, which is televised on national TV. TV talking heads seem supportive. Beach bar patrons seem more focused on the cold weather outside…
As usual the weather’s getting worse in the evening - the waves are up and the clouds are rolling in.
Something new for dinner - crepes in a cave. Florentine for A, chorizo for E.
