Not a lot to see en route… We push the bikes about 2 miles up out of Cassis to the train station, then take the train to the next town to get over (actually under) the mountain.
Trip isn’t very scenic, and the mistral is blowing hard in our faces. Apparently the mistral used to only be a winter phenomenon, but what with climate change, it’s blowing more in the summer.
But France is something like 80 percent nuclear, so don’t blame them for the year-round Mistral!
Some sights keeping out on the way into Aix.
Getting through Aix to our cheap hotel on the edge of town, the first thing we notice is the traffic. This circle reminded me of driving with MEM in Kampala.
We go out for a wander around town. Besides the shopping, Aix is known for its fountains. This is the most elaborate.
My favorite - cingale! Yes, that’s an LPQ befouling the background
Best use of a fountain
Most natural
One of the many squares – zone of limited traffic!
Elaborate architecture
Reminders of home
Someone’s pet lapin… Or maybe supper?
We’ve noticed that in Provence, all the doorknobs are in the center of the doors. Unknown reason.
Dinner is good burgers and the accompaniments - Le Shack du Shake. Then a long walk back to our cheap hotel in the burbs…
