Back to the coast, via another miracle Chelsea connection.
We are off to see an old friend, but first an important detour…
Our second winery pilgrimage of the trip. This is one of our favorite wines, and they happen to be just a few kms off our course!
We taste their wines, meet the owner and have a wonderful conversation about wine and New York City.
And enjoy a picnic on the grounds – not including the wine!
Not Chock Full o' Nuts, but the same idea
Meat pileup at the charcruterie!
Market day in Aups - the usual bounty of produce
Cheese
And sausage
We start to see some products from Provence, like herbs
And lavender soap
What’s going on here? Another medieval festival?! Nope, they are…
Waiting for these two! Phyllis explained that every Saturday in towns all over France there are city hall weddings like this
In another town we find this amazing house
Decorated down to the planter
And we arrive in Montfort-sur-Argens at the lovely home (originally built as a silkworm nursery) of Phyllis Gerstein, another long ago Chelsea friend. We enjoy her hospitality and staying in a real house for a change. After a tour of the grounds and a glad or three of Provencal rosé, we have a lovely dinner out (duck breast with green peppercorns for E, loup de mar for P and hanger steak for A.)
