Another gray morning had me searching for excuses to take the train instead of getting back on my bike, but there were hints of clearing skies and no rain yet, so off I went.
The first 15 miles were on a bike path along the Isere river which was swollen from all the rain (and *occasional* hot sunny weather) and it reached to within about three feet of the path. One more day of rain and I'd probably need a boat instead of a bike.
The path passes lots of dramatic cliffs, most of them shrouded in clouds and fog, but this one peeked through.
After that it was up, up, up: 1300' of net climbing, but none very steep. At the top I got one last view of the Alps. See you again in Italy!
Meanwhile the weather had turned sunny and the area was quite bucolic.
A 7 mile barely-any-braking downhill finished the ride in mysterious Bourgoin-Jallieu. Why mysterious? Because by the time I stretched and showered it had started raining again and I didn't get to see the town.
At least my hotel looks nice.
Dinner at the hotel restaurant also looked good but the portions were a bit small.
