Happy Bastille Day! A good day to return to France.
On the road again, and headed back to France
A break by a lake to grab lunch and watch frolicking German families
An extra-cute house – what’s on top?
Storks! They have been brought back from near-extinction in the wild and are now roosting atop buildings all over Alsace.
We find Germany’s tiniest church.
Finally we cross the Rhine and are BACK in France
A hot sunny 40 miles later, we make it to Strasbourg and our hotel – the Gutenburg (he did his printing stuff here.). A peek at the Cathedral before heading to dinner…
After dinner we head over to the cathedral to listen to an “dueling organs” concert, including this beautiful birds nest instrument. After that, an open-air oompah band and some fireworks to close out Bastille Day.
We start our day off with a walk around Petit France, the oldest part of old town Strasbourg
The most beautiful house in Strasbourg, according to Rick Steves

Tanners’ Row

Then we head to the Cathedral
Inside, a lot of the usual
And a little unusual
And E climbs up the tower to get a view
In the afternoon we all take a boat tour of Strasbourg - starting in the canals around Petit France.
Not quite ugly ducklings… those awkward teenage years?
All that’s left of the city walls
And another beautiful church. The EU parliament and courts are here as well, but not quite as photogenic.
Hmmm…
Ate a few new local specialties for dinner – fleischsnacken (not pictured), which is basically a meatloaf and pastry rolatini – and this pork joint, all doused with hearty Alsacien gravy
Petit France and us at night
And a last view of the Cathedral, all lit up with their nightly light show.
