On the wine trail like fleas on a dog…
Remind me again what Montepulciano is famous for?
Montepulciano… That name rings a bell…

Even in the middle of nowhere there are buses
Montepulciano
Yet again, a view up to our destination - Montepulciano.
Huff puff
That’s yesterday’s lake
We upgrade to a three star hotel, and decide to enjoy our huge balcony. Wow, I look like I’m from the 80s!
In case you think all we do is eat all evening, there is also a LOT of schlepping around these hilly hamlets.
Montepulciano’s wine cellars are in thousand-year old subterranean caves, originally used as medieval prisons. Most stores let you wander around in them before you taste and get the hard sell. (The wine is delicious and cheap. Shipping to the US is not.)
Pecorino and vino aging
More wine
And more
Nice courtyard mosaic
Piazza grande (hyperbolically named)
We go to a few cellars to taste the vino de nobile, but at dinner, get the vino de cheapile.
And a pretty plate of bresaola
