I sadly left Annecy, enjoying the bike path that runs along the lake.
It seemed to go on forever, but eventually it left the lake behind and headed toward the the mountains.
Good thing people have had 50,000 years to find the easy way through! The bike path went on for 22 miles, the last half on an invisible downhill with a tailwind (first of the trip?) - quite the opposite of yesterday's start!
The day started partly cloudy and very hazy, and gradually got cloudier and cloudier until with about 15 miles to go I heard the sound of thunder off in the distance (I'm getting used to it now). But it held off and I rolled into Chambery nice and dry.
Chambery is yet another medieval town with a bunch of pedestrian streets and restaurants with outdoor seating. I wish Boston had more of those.
It also has a fountain with life-size elephants!
One sad thing about Chambery is despite being surrounded by incredible mountains, you can't see them from downtown.
And yes, I had dinner.
I might have a beer or two and some chips waiting in my hotel room for dessert...
