July and August are party time in Germany. We hit two in a row - Promenadefesten in Uberlingen and Rutenfest in Ravensburg. Here’s the evidence.
The crowd at Rutenfest. We haven’t seen a goof festival since Italy so are excited for summer fest season in Germany. After a sample of two, here’s the definitive guide to key aspects of a german festival:
Decorating the town
Flag waving
Drumming and marching
Pork. Here racks of schwein are roasting
Adults drinking wine from tower-shaped holders
Kids drinking beer
Traditional, and not so traditional costume
The hats of Rutenfest
And music. An oompah band at Promenadenfesten
And three American-style oldies bands at Rutenfest - they were in the middle of “listen to zee music” here
And of course fair food, wurst wurst wurst…
Kasespaetzle - chili and spinach
Cheesey!
Demerelle? Like a thick Alsatian tart
