Under the Tuscan clouds
And another rainy start.
So much rain that time stopped
Leaving Umbria (the oil and wine road) for Tuscany (wine and oil road)
A quick chilly lunch stop at Lago Trasimeno
Hey Tuscany, your roads are so bad they make the Via Romana look like I95. (OK, it took me 5 hours bumping away to think of that one…) But the point of the story is flat tire #4 – back tire of course.
Look up. There’s Cortona.
Big climb to town, and our cheap converted convent hotel which is at the low end of town. Ten minutes after we roll in, it starts to pour again.
Wait a second… We could have been doing THIS in every hill town!?
How you can tell a town has been befouled by Americans…
Yes, turns out the pilgrims in Cortona are the Americans here to experience the place where “Under the Tuscan Sun” took place.
To keep out the carcinogen police?
Old meets new
Cortona’s main drag. More upscale shopping than we’ve seen before.
Repurposed Etruscan caves
Italian evening triathlon - dinner, gelato, pub. We only made the first two…
Coffee and Twix for A
Starting to see other cycle tourists. Met a 75 year old man from Munich riding a bike that looked something like this one. Nothing like a hardcore German to make you feel like a wimp.
Also met a young couple from Cleveland who spent two weeks in the rain. They were bitter.
