Our last long riding day – we celebrate with a long, climby route and feel self congratulatory (and hot) when it’s done.
A u-pick-em place leaving town
Up into the mountains again - our last corner of the Alps
On the way up, another amazing lake
We are not alone...
At last - the top of the pass. One of the passes.
A new bunch of mountains on the other side.
We arrive, dead tired and… gleaming with exertion. While our inn is nothing special, we are thrilled to find that it’s right across the road from this pretty, freezing cold, crystal-clear river. So we go for a dip. A short dip - it’s cold!
We head into town for dinner and to see what’s happening. It’s a scenic place.
Surrounded by Alps, mostly Austrian. Somewhere up there is Hitler’s Eagles Nest, which, along with a remembrance museum and remains of a vast underground bunker system built by the Nazis. On our plans for tomorrow…
Forgot to post this from yesterday. Food item of the moment. Husk cherry? Also tried first gooseberry.
All dinner long we hear a live band playing in the platz around the corner. It’s a familiar playlist… Achy Breaky Heart, Stumbling In, etc. We walk over hoping to see our fave band from the Ravensburgfest but discover a totally different band with the exact same repertoire!
We run into a bachelorette party, and play along
A sudden rainstorm isn’t going to deter these festers, who commandeer a biergarten tent to shelter Stardust, but we decide to call it quits and head back to the strains of “Listen to this Music”
Spotted on our walk home. The elusive Tyrolian Wombpigeon Alpenstomper.
