No miles (riding)
We made the wise decision not to do a third, long, hot 70 mile ride today and instead we took the train to Bologna. This gave us time to see The Palazzo Te, which was the summer residence of Prince Gonzaga and probably the Playboy mansion of its time (the 15th century.)
The Horse Room - apparently the prince was famous for his stables and liked to trot his horses out for his guests and sometimes give them away as a party favor.

Eric in the Giant Room
Oops! Giant bonked on head
The Prince was one of the first to bring tennis to Italy - 15th century tennis balls.

And finally, Bologna. On previous visits this has been a winner, but we weren't so lucky this time. The Basilica
Quite a reliquary!
Our last gilded altarpiece
And frescoes
The leaning towers of Bologna
We (and 300 other people) climbed the taller one.
We did find some very hip corners of the city. Here a vicolo filled with shipping container pop-up bars and maker seating.
A tiny window out into the canal
We had big hopes for eating in Bologna. Unfortunately, the high point was Eric's morning donuts.
Dinner 1, at Trattoria Al Rosso, was a touristy disappointment. Tortellini Alla Bolognese for Eric
And lasagna al forno for me.
Dinner 2 was worse - Osteria dell'Orsa, a cafeteria-like place pumping out plates of tagliatelle alla Bolognese.
Thankfully, there's always gelato...
Galleria 49. Raspberry and Greek Yogurt for me and Hazelnut and salted caramel for E.
Al cavour - E only. Mango and cherry swirl.
Sorbetteria - E only. pistachio and crema.
Gelatauro - Chocolate and coffee for me and pistachio and chocolate chip.
And back to Galleria 49 for a last bite. Another Greek yogurt and raspberry for A and raspberry and lemon for E.
The other activity of the day was scavenging for bike boxes and paper and packing up the bikes.
All ready to go!
70 days on the road and we a ready to come home. Thanks for reading, we miss you all!!
